Hello CrisisMappers,

A friend of mine is running the the Rockefeller Foundation's Next Century Innovators Award competition, which is now open for you to nominate your favorite innovators (individuals or organizations, including yourself if you like.) for the Next Century Innovators Award. Below is my friend's short description of what they're looking for. Good luck!

Thanks,
JD

--------------
The Next Century Innovators Award

In the Rockefeller Foundation’s centennial year, we plan to highlight 100 innovators globally, and then 3 of them, including one organization dedicated to youth, will receive an award at our Innovation Forum in May 2013, and will additionally be eligible to apply for a grant. Two of the winners will be chosen by Rockefeller Foundation, and an additional three finalists will be subject to a crowdsourced vote to determine the final award.

We're looking for innovations that have already demonstrated impact, but still have potential to catalyze systemic change.  Rockefeller's description of innovation follows, and gives a sense of the types of innovation that are appropriate.  Descriptions of some of last year's winners are also on the site.

Rockefeller's description of innovation: "An innovation is a break from previous practice. It occurs when different points of view or existing elements are framed, imagined or combined in new ways. Innovation succeeds when it creates new pathways for solving entrenched social problems, resulting in lasting change within the systems that affect poor and vulnerable populations."
