Fundraising Resources for Human Rights Defenders

Our friends at the Foundation Center and the International Human Rights Funders Group (IHRFG) have partnered on the first-ever examination of global human rights grantmaking. The goal of the report, Advancing Human Rights: The State of Global Foundation Grantmaking, is to build the understanding of the current landscape of foundation support for human rights and begin to track changes in its scale, priorities and trends going forward.

You can find this, and many more fundraising resources, in our Fundraising for Human Rights: Lessons-learned and practical advice conversation summary.

Next Conversation: Powerful Persuasion: Combating Traditional Practices that Violate Human Rights

We are now recruiting practitioners to help lead our online conversation on Powerful Persuasion: Combating Traditional Practices that Violate Human Rights from August 19 to 23, 2013.

Traditions and rituals are often supported by strongly held cultural beliefs.  The deep roots of traditional cultural practices can make it very difficult to change behaviors that are harmful and violate the human rights of a community or individual. Often, the key to this kind of cultural shift is respectful, patient, community-led persuasion to create movements for change. This conversation is an opportunity for practitioners involved or interested in the power of persuasion tactics to share their experiences, questions, challenges and ideas.

For more information about the role of our conversation leaders, read this description. If you are interested in helping to lead this conversation, please contact us!

Share your ideas for conversation topics!

To ensure that this community and its online discussions are useful and relevant - we need your help to identify what topics you would like to discuss! What kinds of tactics would you like to learn more about? What kinds of tactics have you mastered that you are eager to share with others? What are you struggling with in your work that this community could help you with? Share your ideas for conversation topics through the summer!

New Tactics in Human Rights helps human rights defenders work more effectively so they can achieve their goals and better address human rights violations around the world. New Tactics is a program of the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT). CVT works to heal the wounds of torture on individuals, their families and their communities and to stop torture worldwide. New Tactics supports this work by strengthening the culture of human rights and the ability of human rights defenders to more effectively advance and advocate for human rights.
